Box Score 2 CLERMONT, Florida – After flexing their muscles at the plate in the first four contests, the Heidelberg University softball team struggled offensively and lost twice, 5-1 to Saint Mary's College and 5-2 to Berry College.
In the first inning against Saint Mary's, starter Abbie Finnell took a line drive off the thigh. The freshman would finish the frame, but was relieved by Cori Long to start the second.
Saint Mary's scored single runs in the first, third and fifth innings, adding a pair in the fourth.
Against the Belles, the Student Princes (4-2) only sustained offensive threat came in the bottom of the seventh, down five. Jordan Hux hit a sacrifice fly that brought in Christine Bowling for the only HU run.
In the nightcap, Berry scored four times in the first three innings to take control. In the fourth, the Tricolor halved the Viking lead with RBI singles by Abbey McKee and Bowling.
Pitcher Paige Atterholt went the distance in the second game.
The Student Princes are off on Thursday before resuming their schedule at the Spring Games at 5 and 7 p.m. on Friday.
