Box Score TIFFIN – Despite a valiant defensive effort on Tuesday, the Heidelberg University women's soccer team fell by a final score of 1-0 to OAC-leading Capital. The Student Princes took a scoreless match into halftime and held up defensively to start the second half, but a goal off a corner kick spelled doom for the Berg as the Crusaders escaped with the victory to remain unbeaten in Ohio Athletic Conference play.
KEY STATS
Capital maintained possession for the majority of the match and out-shot Heidelberg 24-4 and amassed 12 corner kicks compared to none for the Student Princes.
Alexandra Farmer, despite taking the loss on the day, made a season-high 14 saves in the defeat.
FIRST HALF
The Heidelberg defense had an incredibly busy first half as Capital pressed forward offensively. Farmer made 11 saves in the half as the Berg kept the Crusaders off the scoreboard entering halftime.
Heidelberg's lone shot on goal in the period came in the 23rd minute when Denise Bowes put a ball on goal from about 20 yards out, but the Capital keeper made the save.
SECOND HALF
The Student Princes continued to bend but not break as they continued their defensive play in the second half, but Capital finally broke through in the 69th minute.
Off of a corner kick, Mariah Richards leaped above the Berg defenders in the box and headed the ball into the back of the net, giving the Crusaders the 1-0 lead.
Heidelberg looked to have a great chance in the 73rd minute when a ball got loose in the box, but a shot by Lindsey Marcum was saved by Capital to preserve their lead, ultimately preventing the Berg's best chance on the afternoon, as Capital held on for the 1-0 win.

Heidelberg will host Wilmington this Saturday for Senior Day on their final match of the regular season. That match could prove to be pivotal for the Berg's chances for an OAC Tournament bid, as the top 6 teams qualify for the conference tournament. Heidelberg currently sits in 6th place, pending the results of matches that are to be played Tuesday evening across the conference. Kickoff for Saturday's match with Wilmington is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at the Hidden Valley Soccer Complex.
