Muskingum runs away from women's soccer

Box Score

TIFFIN - The Heidelberg University women's soccer team took an early lead, but were unable to keep up the level of play throughout as Muskingum pulled away for the 4-1 victory.

The game started off quickly for the 'Berg, as they came out with a ton of energy.  That attacking mindset paid off when a ball snuck through off of a corner kick and Kimberly Keenan drilled it into the back of the net, giving the Student Princes a 1-0 advantage in the 2nd minute.

That lead did not last long, however, as Muskingum attacked right back and were playing a ball into the box when it deflected off of a Heidelberg defender and into the goal for an own goal in the 5th minute.

Less than eight minutes later, the Muskies found the back of the net again when a free kick was bent into the goal, giving Muskingum a 2-1 lead.

Heidelberg had another great opportunity in the 32nd minute when they had a penalty kick, but the Muskie goalie made a nice save to preserve their lead.

Muskingum fought right back and tacked on one more goal before halftime, giving them a two-goal advantage heading into the break.

The second half turned out to be much like the first, as both teams had chances, but Muskingum was the only one to score, making the final score 4-1 in favor of the Muskies.

Darby Moloney led the Student Prince offense with four shots on the day, with Christina Neal recording three.

The Heidelberg women's soccer team will be back in action on Tuesday, October 14, when they take to the road to face John Carroll.  That match is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
