AUSTINTOWN, Ohio -- Heidelberg University athletics has impressed during the early parts of the 2018 season.
Leading the way for the Student Princes in their success included senior Rachel House who was tabbed as the Ohio Athletic Conference Runner of the Week, junior Erica Campbell who got the nod as women's soccer OAC Player of the Week, and freshman Zachary Blackiston who received OAC Defensive Player of the Week and D3football.com Team of the Week honors.
House topped a field of 117 runners at the Sodexo Grizzly Invite at Franklin College. House crossed the line as winner of the women's 6K race with a time of 22:39.10 with a margin of victory of 18 seconds.
Campbell led the Student Princes to a 4-0 victory over Transylvania and contributed heavily in a 2-1 defeat to Wooster. She has had a part in every Heidelberg goal this season scoring a hat trick and contributing an assist vs. Transy, while assisting HU's only goal vs. Wooster. Campbell has also racked up an impressive .833 shot on goal percentage over the opening weekend of play.
Blackiston had a college debut to remember. On Saturday night, he was instrumental in aiding Heidelberg University's come-from-behind season opening 21-17 win vs. Olivet. On the defensive end of the football, Blackiston racked up an impressive 16 tackles, including 5.5 for a loss, and three sacks in a stalwart effort to keep the Student Princes in the game.
House is back on the course on September 15 at the Tiffleberg Open, Campbell plays tomorrow as the Student Princes hit the road vs. Hiram at 7:30pm, and Blackiston hopes to improve upon his week one efforts as the team opens OAC play on September 15 away to Capital University at 7pm.
