Career Synopsis 

  • The 2023 season marks Spell's 18th year at  Heidelberg and third as head men's soccer coach
  • Spent 15 seasons as head coach of the women's soccer program
  • Career record of 84-165-21 (32-94-9 OAC) with the women's team
  • Spell is an Advanced National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) and United States Soccer Federation (USSF) "D" licensed coach
  • Has coached 18 All-OAC and 44 Academic All-OAC performers during his tenure at the Berg

2022

  • Mentored eight Academic All-OAC honorees

2021

  • Took over as men's soccer head coach where he tallied six wins, two of which were OAC victories 
  • Guided Belluci Marin to OAC Freshman of the Year -- the first in program history to receive the honor
  • Mentored Sigurd Ilestad, who recorded the second most saves in the conference, to All-OAC honors

2020-21

  • Led the women's team to a 1-6-2 record in the topsy-turvy COVID-19 shortened season
  • Guided Audrey Kaufman to All-OAC honors

2019

  • Led the Student Princes to a 7-10-1 (3-6 OAC) record
  • Mentored Erica Campbell, McKenzie Perry and Victoria Perez to All-OAC accolades
  • Assisted Campbell and Perez to All-Ohio honors
  • Saw 14 recipients of Academic All-OAC selection and three to Academic All-Ohio honors under his guidance

2018

  • Guided the Berg to a 7-11-1 (2-7 OAC) record
  • Led goalkeeper Alexandra Farmer to her fourth consecutive All-OAC selection
  • Mentored Maddy Hines to Academic All-Ohio honors
  • Saw eight earn Academic All-OAC under his leadership

2017

  • Led the Student Princes to a 10-8-1 record, including a 4-5 OAC record
  • Mentored Erica Campbell to All-Ohio Honors as a sophomore

2016

  • Coached the Student Princes to a 7-9-3 record, including a 2-6-1 mark in OAC play
  • Mentored seven Academic All-OAC student-athletes

2015

  • Led the Student Princes to an 8-11 record, including a 3-6 OAC record
  • Coached eight Academic All-OAC student-athletes

2014

  • Coached team to a 3-13-3 record (0-7-2 OAC)
  • Mentored five Academic All-OAC student-athletes

2013

  • Led the Berg to a 3-14-2 mark (2-6-1 OAC)
  • Coached GK Molly Schriber to 2nd team All-OAC accolades

2012

  • Guided team to 3-13-1 record, including a 2-7 mark in OAC action

2011

  • Coached the Student Princes to a 6-11-1 record (3-6 OAC)

2010

  • Led team to a 9-8-2 record (2-5-2 OAC)
  • The nine wins marked the most by a Heidelberg women's soccer team since the 2000 season
  • Kelsey Hogan, Kristen Schneider and Michelle Gross each earn All-OAC honors

2009

  • Guided the Student Princes to a berth in the OAC Tournament and a 7-12-1 record (4-5 OAC)
  • The OAC Tournament appearance was the first for the Student Princes since 1999

2008

  • Coached the Berg women to a 5-11-3 mark, including a 1-7-1 record in OAC matches

2007

  • Went 5-13 in his second season as head coach, including a 3-5 mark in Ohio Athletic Conference play

2006

  • In his first season, Spell coached his way to a 3-15 record (0-9 OAC)

2003-2005

  • Served as an assistant coach for both the men's and women's programs at his alma mater, Marietta College
  • Helped coach the women's team to a school-record 14 victories in the 2005 season

Collegiate Experience

  • 2003 graduate of Marietta College
  • Played four years of varsity soccer for the Pioneers
  • Served as team captain and was named the team's Most Valuable Player in both 2002 and 2003

Personal

  • Resides in Tiffin
  • Recieved masters of education from Marietta in 2005
  • Spell is a board member of the Tiffin Soccer Club
  • Active with the River Valley Soccer Club (RVSC), coaching an under-15 boys as well as an under-11 and under-12 girls team out of Parkersburg, W.Va
