ALLIANCE -- A monster second round by the Heidelberg University Men's Golf Team at the Mount Union Spring Invitational yielded a team title and an individual championship over the weekend. The Student Princes shot 304-296--600, setting what is believed to be a program record for a two-day tournament.
Josh Ferdon was tied atop the leaderboard, and won medalist honors on a scorecard playoff.
Ferdon shot a 77-70--144, winning the scorecard playoff on the fifth hole. On Sunday, he played bogey-free golf and birdied the second and seventh. Immediately after his round, he jumped in the car and got back to Tiffin in time for the start of the Siggy Awards -- where he received the Paul Hoernemann Award.
Logan Niese finished in a tie for third, carding a 74-74--148. Jimmy Johnston had a top 10 finish, carding a 76-76--152 to finish eighth.
Matthew Peter tied for 16th with a 79-76--155. HU's fifth was
Lance Frankart's 77-88--165.
Heidelberg was the only sub-300 team on Sunday, rising from third to first on the team leaderboard.
The B team was fifth overall, shooting a 312-318--630.
Max Schneckenburger tied for fifth, shooting a 73-76--149.
Cael Dowdell shot an 82-74--156, placing 18th. Also competing were Nathan Kelly (80-83--163),
Rusty Oddo (77-87--164) and
Brady Bosma (83-85--168).
Heidelberg returns to action at next Monday's BW Spring Shootout.
