ADA -- Looking to avenge a loss from January, the Heidelberg University men's basketball team shot 53.8% from beyond the arc in an 82-63 win at Ohio Northern University on Wednesday. The Student Princes locked up the No. 3 seed in next week's Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament, which starts on Tuesday.
With the victory, Heidelberg moved to 17-7 overall, 12-5 in the OAC. It marks the first time the Student Princes have won 12 OAC games in consecutive years in program history.
Jacob Logsdon scored a game and career-high 20 points which included 6-for-7 from behind the arc. He was one of five 'Berg players in double figures.
Brady Bosma and
Zane Leitwein both connected on a pair of 3-pointers early in the first half, helping Heidelberg build a 16-5 advantage. Moments later, it was
Jacob Logsdon's turn to bury two triples -- the second of which gave HU a 22-11 lead.
After ONU went on a modest 6-0 run,
Emmanuel Perdue made a driving layup and Logsdon knocked down another 3-pointer. Driving layups by
Isaiah Young and
Jashun Cobb capped a 9-0 run that put HU ahead 31-17.
A 3-pointer by Cobb -- HU's eighth of the half -- gave HU a 40-24 lead at halftime.
In the second half, Heidelberg maintained a comfortable cushion throughout the period. ONU crept to within 12 at one point, but a 3-pointer by Bosma and a drive to the hoop by Cobb quickly thwarted the momentum.
Perdue finished with 14 points and Cobb tallied 12. Bosma and Leitwein both had 11 points on the night. The Heidelberg bench outscored the ONU reserves, 51-22.
Cobb had a game-high five assists.
On the glass, Heidelberg held a 40-32 edge, with
Seth Hohman's seven boards leading the way.
Heidelberg will host the No. 6 seed in Seiberling Gymnasium on Tuesday, Feb. 21. Otterbein, Baldwin Wallace and Capital are still in the hunt for the No. 5 and No. 6 seeds.
The Student Princes wrap up the regular season with a 2 p.m. game at Marietta on Saturday.
