ABOUT THE EVENT
The inaugural four-team
Ron Linhart Memorial Classic is set for Seiberling Gymnasium on Nov. 11-12. Serving as host, the Heidelberg University men's basketball team will welcome Olivet College, Pitt-Bradford, and Wisconsin Whitewater to Tiffin for the two-day event. Â
Tickets are now available, and fans are encouraged to
purchase tickets before their arrival. Â No cash sales will be accepted at the doors. Â
HEIDELBERG
Fresh off an 18-8 season and an at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament -- their first trip to The Dance in more than a decade. Â Led by Head Coach
Andy Bucheit, now in his 10th season, The Berg is rolling into 2022-23 with high expectations. Â
Emmanuel Perdue,
Isaiah Young and
Zane Leitwein are the leading scorers back for the battle-tested Student Princes. Â
OLIVET
The Comets went 7-19 a season ago, thanks in large part to a very difficult schedule. Â Eight of their losses, however, were decided by 10 points or fewer. Â Head Coach Sam Hargraves, in his fourth season, will rely heavily on Derrick Johnson and Tevin Ali -- both of whom averaged more than 10 points per game. Â
PITT-BRADFORD
Starting 4-1 last year, the Panthers fought their way to a 9-16 record in 2021-22, their first season under the tutelage of Head Coach Jesse DeLoof. Â The Panthers welcome back Nathan Schneider, who averaged 20.7 points per contest last year. Â
WISCONSIN WHITEWATER
Now in his 22nd season, venerable Head Coach Pat Miller has the Warhawks poised to build off of last year's 15-11 record and + .500 finish in the rugged Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Â To do so, the heavy-hearted Warhawks will have to overcome the tragic loss of First-Team All-WIAC guard Derek Gray, who passed away in July. Â
THE SCHEDULE
Olivet and Pitt-Bradford will tip off the event at 6 p.m. on Friday, followed by Heidelberg and Whitewater. Â On Saturday, the Panthers and the Warhawks will start at 2 p.m., with The Berg and the Comets to follow. Â All four games will be streamed on
BergAthletics.com and the OAC TV app and smart TV channels. Â
ABOUT RON LINHART
Linhart was a two-sport standout for the Student Princes, excelling in basketball and baseball. Â He was inducted into the Heidelberg Athletics Hall of Fame in 1999. Â
For as impressive a career as Linhart had as a student, his involvement with 'Berg Athletics as an alum was unparalleled. Â As long-time president of the H Association booster organization, he helped create the Back the Berg Golf Outing -- the group's biggest annual fundraiser.
After his passing in November of 2020 following a long battle with cancer, Ron's friends and family banded together and helped cement his legacy by renaming the golf outing in his honor and creating this annual basketball tournament. Â
The group, including his wife Sheila, also created an endowment to benefit Heidelberg Athletics for years to come. Â
