ALLIANCE -- In yet another impressive performance on the road, the Heidelberg University men's basketball team upset No. 12 Mount Union on Saturday. Behind a 24-point outburst from
Dylan Woods, the Student Princes beat the Purple Raiders, 91-72.
On the heels of Wednesday's 92-59 win at Baldwin Wallace, the Student Princes have scored 90+ points in back-to-back OAC games for just the eighth time in program history.
Woods was one of five in double figures for the Student Princes.
Seth Hohman had 17 points to go along with five rebounds and three steals.
Isaiah Young's stellar freshman campaign continued with a 16-point effort on 7-of-11 shooting and a team-high four assists.
Emmanuel Perdue had 13 points and
Eric Panning had 10 points and eight rebounds.
"We have a lot of guys who are capable of stepping up and leading us on any given night," said Head Coach
Andy Bucheit. "We are playing unselfish basketball and the guys have bought in on both ends of the court."
Heidelberg (6-1, 2-0 OAC) shot 51.3% from the floor and held a 25-10 edge in points off turnovers. The Berg outscored MTU in the paint, 66-34.
After a modest deficit early, HU enjoyed a 3-6 point for a vast majority of the opening half. In the final minute of the first, Woods hit a step-back 3-pointer that gave the Tricolor their biggest lead at 41-33.
While the game remained close in the second half, a pivotal moment came with just under 15 minutes to play. Mount's Logan Hill had a thunderous dunk that cut Heidelberg's lead to four. Hill, though, received a technical foul on the play for hanging on the rim. Woods connected on both free throws, igniting a 24-12 run over the next 10 minutes. Young, Woods and Perdue fueled the surge, each scoring six points.
Heidelberg led by as many as 21 in the second half.
Mount Union (5-1, 0-1 OAC) was led by a game-high 25 points from Christian Parker.
The Student Princes visit No. 14 Trine on Wednesday. Tipoff in Angola is slated for 7 p.m.
