Student Princes Hold Off Albion; Remain Unbeaten

Albion, MI – The Heidelberg University men's basketball team fought off the Albion College Britons, 87-84, on Tuesday night to remain unbeaten.

The Heidelberg men improve to 4-0 overall, while the setback moves the Brits to 2-4.

Five Student Princes finished in double figures to lift the Berg past Albion. Berg leading scorer Dylan Woods led the charge with 18 points on a 7-of-14 (50%) performance from the field to accompany his one rebound, three assists, one steal and one block.

Junior Treohn Watkins and senior Emmanuel Perdue tallied 17 and 16 points respectively, marking season-highs for the duo. Watkins' 17 points came off of a 6-of-10 (60%) performance from the field including 3-of-6 from beyond the arc and a team-high five rebounds. Perdue netted his 16 points on 5-of-11 (45.5%) shooting to accompany his five assists, three boards and three steals.

Sophomores Eric Panning and Zane Leitwein each registered 11 points in the win to round out the Student Princes in double-figures. Panning's 11-point performance on Tuesday night marks a career high for the Columbus native.

The contest was a back-and-forth affair from the tipoff with the Britons taking a one-point advantage into the halftime break, 44-43. The Berg battled back and dropped 44 points on their Michigan Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) foe in the second half to seal the victory.

Head Coach Andy Bucheit's crew hung tough in the closing minutes including capping off an 18-of-20 (90%) from the free throw line and staved off multiple lead changes throughout the contest to collect the fourth win of the 2021-22 campaign.

The Heidelberg men return to the court on Saturday, November 27 when they host the Battling Bishops of Ohio Wesleyan University. Tipoff from inside Seiberling Gymnasium is scheduled for 7 p.m.

The bout with the Bishops is the final non-conference tune-up before the Berg men open Ohio Athletic Conference play on Wednesday, December 1 at Baldwin Wallace University.
