Box Score BEXLEY, Ohio -- The Heidelberg University men's basketball team's three-game winning streak was snapped Wednesday evening. The Student Princes were upended by Capital University, 70-63, in Columbus. Chris Moxley had a game-high 16 points in the loss.
Heidelberg fell to 9-11 overall, 5-8 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. The Crusaders improved to 11-9, 6-7.
The Student Princes struggled shooting the ball in all phases -- going 37.3% from the floor, 17.4% from long range and 45% at the line.
After six minutes of action, Heidelberg held an 8-2 edge. Over the next nine minutes, however, the Crusaders outscored HU 22-8, taking a 24-16 lead on a 3-pointer by Tyrel Jackson.
Trailing by seven at the break, the Tricolor stormed out of the gate in the second half. An 11-0 run to start -- keyed by a pair of 3-pointers by Kiere Bennie -- gave The Berg a 39-35 lead and prompted a CAP timeout.
The contest remained tight throughout much of the second half. CJ Marshall split a pair of free throws with 2:58 to play, making it 60-59 in favor of the home team. The Student Princes, though, wouldn't make another shot from the floor until there were 18 seconds remaining. In the meantime, Capital built a seven-point lead -- one that was insurmountable for Heidelberg.
Three Crusaders finished in double-figures, led by Jackson's 14 point effort. Tyler Jamison had 12 points and 12 boards. Capital attempted 15 more free throws than Heidelberg, going 25-for-35.
The Student Princes return to action at home on Saturday against No.13 Marietta (16-4, 11-2), with a 3 p.m. tip. The men's basketball team will hold its annual alumni game at noon.
