Box Score NEW CONCORD, Ohio -- By the time the Heidelberg University men's basketball team found its rhythm offensively, it was too late. Down by 19 with 2:49 to play, HU closed the game with a 17-5 run -- ultimately falling to Muskingum University 101-94. The loss snapped a run of five straight for Heidelberg over the Muskies.
The Student Princes slipped to 6-7 overall and 2-4 in OAC play. The Muskies improved to 9-4 overall, 3-3 in the conference.
Chris Moxley tallied 20 points in the loss. Myron Prewitt (18 points), Mike Mason (13 points), Kiere Bennie (11 points) and Alex Arellano (11 points) all finished in double-figures.
Heidelberg opened the game on a short-lived 7-2 run. The Muskies came right back with 3-pointers on consecutive possessions, followed by a layup to grab a 10-7 lead.
Prewitt responded for the Student Princes with a triple to knot the game at 10. Mason and Michael Schuller added layups to complete a 7-0 run and give HU a 14-10 lead.
With five minutes remaining in the first half, Rickey Wilson hit back-to-back 3-pointers giving the Muskies a nine-point advantage at 39-30.
Trailing 52-43 at half, Heidelberg quickly fell behind by double-digits in the second half. Muskingum's Marcus Dempsey scored 14 of his 20 points in the period. Dempsey was one of three Muskies to tally 20+ points on the afternoon.
Both teams shot 49.3% from the field -- but Muskingum was 12-26 (46.2%) from beyond the arc. Heidelberg shot 7-19 (36.8%) from long-range.
The HU bench outscored the Muskies 41-15.
Heidelberg will host Capital University (8-5, 3-3 OAC) on Wednesday evening. The tip is scheduled for 7 p.m.
