Box Score UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio -- Sharp-shooting from beyond the arc proved to be too much for the Heidelberg University men's basketball team as they fell to John Carroll 97-76. The Student Princes could not recover following an early John Carroll lead.
JCU opened the game on a 17-4 run. David Linane highlighted the run by draining five 3-pointers in a four minute span.
A Prince Benson layup from Myron Prewitt briefly halted the JCU momentum. The shot cut the Blue Streak lead to single digits at 21-13. Kiere Bennie followed with a triple from the wing, bringing the score to 21-16 with 12 minutes remaining in the first half.
The home team responded with a dunk and a 3-pointer, pushing their lead back to ten points with just under 11 minutes left in the first half.
Freshman Alex Arellano's three cut back into the John Carroll lead at 26-19. John Carroll responded with a quick 6-0 run, building their lead to 32-19. The home team held a 47-34 lead at halftime.
The Blue Streaks continued their momentum into the second half, pushing to an early 58-39 lead. HU could not chip away at the JCU lead, as they trailed by double digits for the remainder of the game.
Bennie led Heidelberg with 25 points, including 6-7 from three. Chris Moxley added 10 points for HU. Linane paced the Blue Streaks with 25 points. Matthew Csuhran added 20 points for John Carroll.
The JCU bench outscored HU 50-33. The Blue Streaks shot 50% from three (11-22) compared to Heidelberg's 38% (11-29).
John Carroll improves to 6-5, 3-2 in OAC play. The Student Princes fall to 6-6, 2-3 in conference action.
Heidelberg will travel to Muskingum (8-4, 2-3 OAC) for a matchup with the Muskies on Saturday. Tip off in New Concord is slated for 2 p.m.
