Box Score ALBION, Mich. -- The Heidelberg University men's basketball team held off a late comeback and gritted out a 78-75 win over Albion College on Tuesday evening. The Student Princes improve to 2-1 while Albion slips to 1-2.
KEY STATS
Juniors Kiere Bennie and Chris Moxley had 15 points each. Bennie added five assists.
Mike Mason and DeAvery Collins chipped in with 10 points each. Mason grabbed seven boards in the win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Heidelberg came out of the gates on a 7-2 run. Layups by Mason and Bennie and a 3-pointer by Collins gave HU a quick lead.
Down by one, a 3-pointer by sophomore Andrew Grothouse gave the Tricolor a 15-13 advantage, in which the continued to build.
A pair of free throws from Moxley pushed the Student Princes ahead 13 with under two minutes in the first half. The Brits chipped away in the final seconds before cutting the HU lead to nine at intermission
A made 3-pointer by Moxley pulled the Berg ahead 48-34 early in the second half.
Albion went on a 13-2 run midway through the second half, putting them down by one. The Brits pulled the score to 67-66. Heidelberg stopped the Albion momentum with a Bennie jumper and free throws by Bennie and Collins.
With five seconds left, Albion hit a three to trim the Heidelberg lead to one. Following a foul, Bennie swished both free throws to seal the HU victory.

Head coach Andy Bucheit on the win: "I thought our team played a complete game from start to finish ... Our offensive execution matched our defensive effort and intensity ... The guys battled every possession to grind out a win and I am very proud of them."
