UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS – The Heidelberg University men's basketball team lost the opening game of the Ohio Athletic Conference slate, 82-63, to No. 16 John Carroll University on Wednesday. The Student Princes held the Blue Streaks to a season-low in scoring, but it was not enough, as JCU pulled away in the second half to remain undefeated.

The loss dropped the Student Princes to 3-3, 0-1 in the conference. The Blue Streaks remain a perfect 6-0, 1-0.

Sophomore Kiere' Bennie led Heidelberg with 18 points and eight rebounds. Freshman Myron Prewitt added 10 points.

After trailing by seven early, Heidelberg responded in the middle third of the first half and took an 18-13 lead following a layup by Chris Moxley with 11:10 to play.

John Carroll answered quickly, however, as they re-gained the lead and pulled out to a 33-25 edge at the 3:12 mark. The Blue Streaks maintained that into the break as they led 38-30 at halftime.

Heidelberg was not able to make the halftime adjustment to get back into things right away, as JCU opened the second half on a 5-0 run.

The Student Princes were able to pull back within nine (47-38) after a layup by Shane Lee with 15:09 to go, but John Carroll then went on a run to pull away for good.

The Blue Steaks went on a 12-2 run at that point and never looked back, as the Berg was unable to mount a comeback, falling by a final score of 82-63.

John Carroll controlled the paint for much of the game, out-scoring the Berg 38-26 in the lane. The Blue Streaks also out-rebounded Heidelberg by a slim 51-46 margin.

Heidelberg will return to action on Saturday, December 5th, when they continue OAC play with a road contest against Muskingum. Tip-off in New Concord is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
