ALBION, Mich. – In the waning seconds of the game, a 3-pointer by Mike Petrie vaulted Heidelberg University men's basketball to a 62-59 victory at Albion College on Tuesday.

Petrie's basket, assisted from Keith Mackie, capped off a fevered rally for the Student Princes, who trailed by six late in the contest.

Heidelberg (2-2) was led by Mackie's 12 points. Jackson Blue added ten points.

Albion (4-1) led by as many as nine points in the first half and held the advantage throughout most of the contest. The Student Princes never led by more than three points.

A three-point play by Jordan Herron gave the Britons a six point lead with under seven minutes to play. Blue hit a jumper to close the lead to four. After a basket from HU's Doug Waldmannstetter cut the deficit to two, both teams would go cold for nearly three minutes.

Off a feed from Deonte Holder, Blue tied the game with a basket with just over two minutes left. Holder gave HU their first lead since the first half on a layup in transition off of a Briton miss.

Albion's Carter Elliott tied the game with a layup with 1:29 left and was fouled. Elliott missed the subsequent free throw, but the Britons grabbed the rebound. They missed two 3-pointers on the possession before Mackie stole the ball.

With less than 10 seconds left, Mackie drove the lane and kicked a pass out to Petrie in the corner. With a hand in his face, the senior knocked down the shot.

Albion's attempt to tie caromed off the rim as the buzzer sounded.

"We grinded out the win tonight," said first-year head coach Andy Bucheit. "Our staff is proud of our team's effort and determination."

Holder and Waldmannstetter added nine and eight points off the bench, respectively. Starter Cole Williams led Heidelberg with seven rebounds.

"We stepped up and got a good win against a good team tonight," concluded Bucheit.

After the Thanksgiving holiday, the Student Princes will return to action at Trine University on Saturday. The game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.
