Despite late surge, men's basketball falls to MSJ

Box Score

CINCINNATI – A late surge by the Heidelberg University men's basketball team was not enough to rally past Mount St. Joseph. The Student Princes fell to the Lions, 63-56.

Heidelberg (1-1, 0-0 OAC) trailed by as many as 14 points in the second half before a 3-pointer from Keith Mackie cut the MSJ lead to three with a minute left. The Lions responded with a 3-pointer of their own and thwarted the comeback effort.

The Student Princes shot 31% from the floor and 25% from beyond the arc.

Deonte Holder and Keith Mackie were the only HU players in double-figures. Holder had 11 points and Mackie scored 10.

Sophomore Jackson Blue had eight points on 4-of-5 shooting, adding seven rebounds. Cole Williams led the Student Princes on the glass, collecting 9 rebounds.

All five Mount St. Joseph (2-0) starters reached double-figures in points.

Heidelberg will return to action on Saturday at Division I foe Ohio University. Tip-off with the Bobcats is slated for a 2 p.m. start.
