TIFFIN -- Four decorated Student Princes and one team will make up the 2017 Heidelberg University Athletic Hall of Fame class. Bill Sheets ('03), Lori (Arnold) Nutter ('98), Jadie Wheeler ('99), Claudie Johnson ('85), and the 1930 Football Team will be inducted in late October.
Sheets, the 2002 OAC Pitcher of the Year, was a three-time first team All-OAC during his time at the Berg. He still holds the career record for wins (27) and shutouts (3). In the 1999 season, Sheets threw eight complete games, a single season record. In his final season, Sheets led the baseball team to its first-ever OAC Regular Season title. T
Nutter was a key to the success of the women's soccer team from 1993-96. The 1995 OAC Defender of the Year led the Berg to OAC Regular Season and Tournament championships from 1993-95. The team was also a Regional Qualifier during her junior and senior seasons. Nutter was an All-Region and NSCAA Third Team All-American in 1996.
Wheeler was an offensive catalyst for the Heidelberg softball team. She was a three-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference selection and a NFCA Third Team All-Region pick in 1999. Upon her graduation, Wheeler stood atop the leaderboard in career home runs and RBIs. Wheeler still holds the record for most home runs in a single season (11).
Johnson helped lead the Student Prince basketball team to the Sweet 16 in 1984. At the time of his graduation, Johnson was second on the Heidelberg career scoring list with 1,587 points. He currently sits fourth. He was a two-time All-OAC selection, receiving second team honors in the 1984-85 season.
The 1930 Football Team enjoyed a perfect 8-0 record that season. The team outscored its opponents by a 290-20 margin. The team was coached by Heidelberg legend T.R. Turney
All five inductees will be recognized at the Homecoming football game on Oct. 28. They will be honored at the Hall of Fame Banquet the night prior to the game. Click here to register for the banquet.
